Fine Gael candidate for Dundalk-Carlingford, John McGahon, at last weekend’s Fine Gael Ard Fheis called on the government to ensure that young people are prioritised for training schemes and offered every support possible to enter the workforce.
John’s speech, which was broadcast live on RTÉ, received a strong reception from delegates. He spoke of his generation’s desire to “rebuild Ireland for those who left and want to return.”
John said: “Ireland is currently above the European average for youth unemployment, it is vital that we have an active and engaged young people in our workforce.
“Ireland has one of the youngest populations in Europe and its time we harnessed the talent and energy that my generation has. We need to ensure that more young people are prioritised for employment and training schemes so they have the necessary experience and skills when they enter the workforce.”
