Around 3,000 litres of toxic sludge was discovered dumped just outside Dundalk earlier today.
In total three containers of oil laundering waste, each containing about 1,000 litres of the toxic material, was discovered under the railway bridge on the Haggardstown Road.
This was the 26th incident of diesel sludge dumping since the turn of the year with Louth County Council spending almost €80,000 thus far recovering and disposing of it.
Last year the bill for the entire year was €686,000 with 698 tonnes disposed of following 105 incidents.
Anyone with information on the activity is asked to contact Dundalk Gardaí or Louth County Council.
