Dundalk Town Councillor Jennifer Green has welcomed speed calming measures on the Avenue Road around Medebawn.
A number of residents of the estate were concerned about the excessive speeds from vehicles on the Avenue Road and made representation to the council.
Sinn Féin’s Cllr Green was pleased to receive notification from the Town Engineer that ‘funding has being secured for a Low Cost Safety Scheme for 2014 at this location’.
The local election candidate explained that “this means the scheme is to include the extension of the footpath along the northern side of the road and a pedestrian crossing at Medebawn over towards the shop.”
Parents in particular have been concerned as their secondary school children have to cross the road to access the school bus.
“School times are a particularly busy time of the day anyway and as a mother myself, I can appreciate the parents’ concerns.”
Cllr Green continued: “This is good news and very much welcomed. The council recognised this problem and have acted appropriately.”
