Independent councillor Jim Tenanty has been elected the new chairman of the Municipal District of Ardee.
The local publican was elected to the position unopposed at the first meeting of the committee this morning. It replaces the old Ardee Town Council.
Cllr Tenanty was the last person to be elected onto the newly formed Louth County Council after pipping fellow independent Hugh Conlon to the final seat on a recount.
Fine Gael’s Colm Markey was named the new vice chairman after defeating Sinn Féin’s Tom Cunningham by four votes to two.
The Ardee Municipal Committee is made up of the following councillors: Pearse McGeough (Sinn Féin), Colm Markey (Fine Gael), Liam Reilly (Fianna Fáil), Tom Cunningham (Sinn Féin), Dolores Minogue (Fine Gael), Jim Tenanty (Independent).
