A new salt barn has been earmarked for the north of the county.
Tenders for the new facility at Ballymascanlon – which will store salt for gritting the roads in wintertime – are now being accepted by Louth County Council.
The new facility, when built, will complement the existing salt barn that is located at Woodlands in Dunleer.
It had been hoped that the new salt barn would have been built prior to last winter but it was held up due to a lack of funding.
It is understood that the new facility will be funded by the National Roads Authority.
The tender for the construction of the salt barn is for a “masonry structure with reinforced concrete piers and beams and a light weight steel roof structure, concrete slabs and associated site works.
