Dundalk Women’s Aid have revealed that they were forced to turn away 58 requests from women over the course of the last 12 weeks due to a lack of suitable accommodation.
So far this year 166 women looking to avail of the service have been turned away.
Sandra Farrell of Dundalk Women’s Aid told LMFM this morning that the demand for the service was showing a “steady increase’ with 293 women turned away last year, compared with 222 in 2012.
The refuge’s future was recently secured after Louth County Council agreed to part-fund it.
