The Park Hotel
The Park Inn Hotel could be set to reopen its doors in the coming weeks and months after the Kirk family secured an agreement at the weekend to regain the property.
Philip Kirk had been protesting for some time to regain control of the hotel at Carnbeg on the Armagh Road, which he had owned with his mother Eileen before it was closed by examiners KPMG four years ago this month.
However, it appears he has finally reached a breakthrough after publishing a statement on his Facebook page at the weekend, signed by both himself and Eileen.
It read: “The Kirk family and associated parties would like to state that we have reached an agreement with the Directors of Corran Field Limited and associated parties moving forward. We would also like to put on record that we have received opportunities to purchase the former Park Inn Hotel and associated lands in November 2013 as well as July and August 2014. However, we were unable to complete the purchase during those periods.
“We would like to apologies to all parties that we have mentioned throughout our protests as this was a particularly stressful time for all involved on both sides.”
While, Philip would not be drawn on his future plans, saying only that “I hope to be in a position soon to let the public know”, it is understood he has been in negotiations with one of the world’s biggest hotel operators to help run the 84 bedroom hotel.
While the future of the 18 hole golf course, which closed in August 2008, is unknown it is also believed that Mr Kirk still has hopes of building the 9,000 seater arena once earmarked for the site that would have rivaled the likes of the 3 Arena in Dublin and the Odyssey in Belfast.
