Local Fianna Fáil TD Seamus Kirk has called on the western by-pass of Ardee to be prioritised in order to help the town prosper.
Deputy Kirk feels that the Mid-Louth town is suffering due to traffic problems and believes that the construction of the by-pass would help businesses who are struggling from trade as a result of locals avoiding the town centre.
Yesterday Mr Kirk sent a parliamentary question to Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe, asking the timeframe for the commencement of the by-pass.
In his reply,, Minister Donohoe said road projects were a matter for the National Roads Authority (NRA) and that he would divert the question to them before getting back to Deputy Kirk.
Commenting on the matter, the Knockbridge man said: “This project needs to be prioritised by the NRA and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
“The N2 traffic volumes in Ardee are destroying the commercial life of the town.
“I am urging Minister for Transport and NRA to prioritise this project so that the traffic problem can be alleviated in the town of Ardee, and the commercial businesses will be given a chance to succeed in the area.”
