Video footage has emerged of a dispute between Greenacres residents and Irish Water officials.

The dispute emerged after a local family asked for water meters not to be installed outside their home.

The pair – Terry and Maeve Curtis – spoke to retired local detective Bill Piper, arguing that it was not legal for Irish Water to attach a meter to their private property without permission. The couple said Irish Water were “defying them” and asked for “respect”.

Mr Piper refused to talk to the couple because the conversation was being filmed, something which they said was used to “protect themselves.”

They said that any house with a notice up had the right to refuse a meter and that the installers would be committing the crime of trespassing.

A similar dispute is said to have occurred in Drive One in Muirhevnamor on Monday night when two houslands complained about their pipes being burst and water cut off after Irish Water installed meters that they were told not to. It is claimed that the stand-off with residents led to the meters being removed.
