Dundalk defender Mark Rossiter has confirmed his departure from Oriel Park.

The 31-year-old joined the Lilywhites from St Patrick’s Athletic two seasons ago and was a popular figure at the club.

He featured 28 times under Stephen Kenny in his debut season at the club but found chances limited in 2014 due to a combination of injuries and the form of Sean Gannon at right back.

The Sligo native did manage to captain the side to the EA Sports Cup in September though, starting the game at centre back.

A former Sunderland player, Rossiter has won all there is to win in the Irish game have previously clinched two League of Ireland titles, an FAI Cup and a Setanta Sports Cup during his time with Bohemians.

In a tweet this afternoon, he said: “Want to wish all the players, staff and fans @DundalkFC all the best in the future. Had an amazing 2 years there but now onto pastures new!”

While it is not known where Rossiter will end up, the Lilywhites vice-captain has been linked with a move to Sligo Rovers.
