The billboard at Line Terrace on Hill Street
Clear Channel Ireland Ltd have been refused planning permission by Louth County Council to retain the advertising billboard that has been erected for a number of years at Hill Street on the Dublin Road.
The company had applied for permission to keep the 3.05m x 6.1m illuminated Prismatic billboard that is located on the gable wall of 16 Line Terrace.
However, last week the council refused the application.
Explaining their reasoning, the council said the billboard was “located in an area zoned for residential use where it is the objective of the Council to ‘protect, provide and improve residential amenities.’
“The proposed development comprises the retention of a commercial advertising display board adjacent to the gable of an end terrace dwelling unit, overlooking amenity open space associated with same.
“It is considered that the nature of the commercial use in an area zoned for residential purposes would be contrary to the zooming matrix and Table 2.4 of the 2009-2015 Dundalk and Environs Development Plan and would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.”
