DundalkCrest2010Dundalk FC have announced that John Mountney has signed a deal to remain with the club next season.

This will be the Mayo native’s fourth season at Oriel Park having joined from Mervue United at the start of 2012.

Only 22, the midfielder played a key role in the success of 2014 where he picked up a league winner’s medal, EA Sports Cup and scored five goals in over 40 appearances, which included displays in the League Cup and the memorable European run where he featured in 3 of the 4 matches including a start in the win against Hajduk Split in Croatia.

Speaking to dundalkfc.com after re-signing Mountney said he was happy to re-sign for the club before going on to speak about his ambitions for the new season.

“It’s great to be back. Going into my fourth year here now and I was really young when I first signed. Hard to believe it has been that long but I remember when I signed I said to a fan that I didn’t see the point in following the usual league thing and move from club to club and that I would like to stay here for as long as I could so I am delighted to be still here.

“European football is great. It was a brilliant experience last year and getting to play in 3 of the 4 games was fantastic but we have the big one this year so hopefully we can do well in the Champions League. The main focus is the league and we’re the target now – we’re there to be shot at so we have to be ready to defend and I am really looking forward to it now.”
