Dundalk FC will take on Everton as part of their pre-season preparations in the New Year, according to this week’s Argus.
The fixture with the Merseyside club was secured as part of the deal that took Ben McLaughlin to Goodison Park back in August 2012 with a fixture set to be finalised for either late January or early February in the coming weeks.
Stephen Kenny revealed to ‘The Argus’ on Tuesday that the 17 players signed up for next season had already been in to DCU for individual fitness assessments and to receive training and diet tips ahead of the return to pre-season training in mid-January.
He also said he hoped to finalise the pre-season fixture schedule shortly.
“I had a chat with the chairman and there is a deal with Everton for a game as part of the Ben McLaughlin deal and that will be an ideal one for us.
“We will also have the Jim Malone Cup and the President’s Cup and apart from that I’d say we are likely to play a few First Division and Irish League sides. We’ve discussed the possibility of a training camp too but nothing has been finalised.
“We want to be well prepared for the new season and to make sure we’re absolutely ready to go right from the off. Everyone is really hungry though and they have already been in to DCU to get their individual programmes which will make sure everyone comes back right next month,” said Kenny.
