The future of The Fairways Hotel remains very much up in the air this morning after it closed its doors last night.
The Dublin Road hotel was briefly shut down before Christmas leading to panic amongst one bride and groom over whether their New Year’s Eve wedding would go ahead.
The hotel did reopen for that event, with management stating in last week’s Dundalk Democrat that it would be business as usual from yesterday (January 5th 2015) when a new owner was due to take over.
However, last night the hotel posted a closed sign on their Facebook page, with a number of couples who had planned to wed there in 2015 reporting that they would now have to look for an alternative venue with no prospect of getting their deposits back.
Furthermore, while the hotel’s website www.fairways.ie makes no mention of the closure, it will not allow anyone to book any rooms for the foreseeable future.
It remains to be seen whether the hotel is closed for good or for renovation but the immediate future certainly looks bleak for what was a large employer that played host to countless events, weddings and christenings over the years.
Commenting on LMFM this morning, Dundalk Chamber of Commerce PRO Paddy Malone said it was important management came out and let staff and customers know what the future held and what the situation was.
“It’s a huge resource for the town and it would be an awful pity to see it lost,” he said.
