The two men who were arrested in Dundalk earlier this week as part of an investigation into dissident Republican activity in the area have been released without charge.
A man in his 40s was arrested on Tuesday during a planned operation in the Point Road area. Members of the Regional Support Unit stopped and searched a car and recovered a rifle as part of their search.
A second man in his 50s was later arrested during a follow up search at a nearby house.
Both men were detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Dundalk Garda Station but have now been released.
A file on the matter has been sent to the Department of Public Prosecutions.
