A Cross Border Tourism Conference will be held in Dundalk on April 15th.

The free event takes place in the Crowne Plaza Hotel from 8.30am to 1.30pm, with stands available for businesses at a cost of €50 plus VAT.

Dundalk Chamber of Commerce – in association with Brendan McSherry, Heritage Officer with Louth County Council – has brought some very high profile speakers together for this event.

On the day there will be presentations from Belfast’s Black Taxi tours and on the development of the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre. One of the founders of the field, Prof. John Lennon of Glasgow Caledonian University, will introduce those in attendance to ‘Dark Tourism’ while other experts will talk about battles of Louth, Meath, Monaghan and Armagh and the castles and other defences that lie across our lovely countryside. Those attending will also be hearing about the rather ghoulish, “Horrible Histories” or “CSI” aspects of battlefield history.

There will be a free workshop which delegates can attend after the lunch. Kieran Swail of Southern Regional College and Wayner Denner Digital Marketer will discuss Podcasts for Tourism – an emerging digital channel.

Sponsored by Crowne Plaza Dundalk, Haines Fleet Management and Matthews Coach Hire with the support of Louth Local Enterprise Office this will expand on the key issues and the collaborative actions required to maximise a region’s social and investment potential, as a major tourism destination.

Participants will include representatives from tourism sectors along with funding bodies, public sector representatives, business organisations, educational institutions, cross border organizations and local authorities.

There is also an opportunity to showcase your products/services as there will be a number of stands for exhibition purposes. Stands cost €50 plus VAT and can be booked through the Chamber.
