dundalkcricket clubWith the Cricket World Cup in it’s stride and Ireland doing well, if you have ever been curious about the game it may well be worth your while giving Dundalk Cricket Club a look.

Ireland have now played four games in their group and having won three of the four games so far are currently well poised to take a place in the quarter finals.

The next set of matches are against India on Tuesday and Pakistan on Sunday.

With wins over the West Indies, the UAE and Zimbabwe confidence is high that they can repeat the feat in the matches against Pakistan, with the match against reigning world champions India set to be a trickier prospect but given Ireland’s giant killer reputation you can never count them out.

Dundalk Cricket Club have been in existence since 2009 and have twice won Leinster League titles and were runners up last year in the Dick O’Neill Cup. The season starts at the end of April and as always the club is on the hunt for new players. Work has been going on out of season and new training facilities and equipment have been put in place at the clubs ground in the Green Road and the club’s artificial pitch is to be relayed shortly.

The club has ECB Level 2 qualified coaches and can offer a high level of support and coaching from novice to veteran, all ages are welcome and the beginnings of a youth team are well under way especially since the link up with the girls of St Vincents School last year, the club also has the beginnings of a ladies team with the ever enthusiastic Challoner sisters at it’s core. Overseas touring is an option with the club playing last year in France against the Central Brittany Cricket Club and this year they are heading to London to take on Brentham Cricket Club the former club of Ashes winning England Captain Mike Brearley.

The club has already begun it’s programme of indoor net training on Tuesday evenings at the Royal Armagh School and the ground will also open up shortly for outdoor sessions.

The club would encourage anyone whose interest has been peaked by Ireland’s fastest growing sport to take a look at their website dundalkcricketclub.com which contains a wealth of information on the history and present set up of Cricket in Dundalk and Louth as well as all of this seasons fixtures.

If anyone is interested in joining the club then please contact the secretary Derek Turner via mail derek@spiritstore.ie or by phone 087 262 7893
