Dundalk briefly came to a standstill yesterday as two feuding families engaged in a street brawl outside the local courthouse.
A fist fight spilled out on to Crowe Street with bottles being thrown as two men traded blows in an incident witnessed by several shocked bystanders.
According to The Daily Mail’s Mark Duell, the row started at midday after a verbal exchange between two families, when a car pulled up outside the courthouse.
The Mail reported: “Two men got out of the car and words were exchanged with a bearded man already at the courthouse with his partner and a toddler.
“The bearded man then removed his shirt and faced off against one of the car’s occupants, before they began a bare-knuckle fight.
“Police then swooped, putting one man in a headlock before removing him down the street.
“Shocked locals gathered to watch from a safe distance, with officers bringing the situation under control within a few minutes.
“Verbal exchanges continued at the scene until peace was restored.”
According to the paper, two men were arrested by Gardaí on suspicion of public order offences.
