The former McGowan’s/Shamrock Print factory on the Ramparts Road could soon become a car park.
That’s because Cavalli Investments Plc have been granted conditional planning permission by Louth County Council to demolish the former factory buildings (3,000sqm) and the dwelling/commercial premises (355sqm), which was most recently occupied by Auto Extreme.
In its place there will be a new temporary surface car park containing 139 parking spaces, with access via Marshes Avenue.
The existing vehicular entrance at the Ramparts will be closed and the new car park access will also serve the HSE building. Pedestrian access will be provided onto the Ramparts Road and Marshes Avenue, with a new pedestrian crossing on Marshes Avenue leading to the Marshes Shopping Centre.
Permission has also been granted for landscaping, lighting and all associated site works.
Previously there had been plans to convert the land into a 28,607sqm mixed-use scheme comprising a five storey hotel with bar, restaurant and meeting facilities, 22 retail units, offices, 10 live/work units, a medical centre, a gym, a restaurant, a library and a multi-storey car park although this was never built due to the recession.
