Two people were evacuated from their home in Dundalk last night after a wheelie bin fire uncovered a cracked gas pipe.
The bin was set alight outside a house in Quay Street around 2.30am with Dundalk Fire Service quickly responding to the call.
Upon discovering the cracked pipe they closed the street and contacted Gas Networks Ireland whose contractors discovered a high concentration of gas at a potentially explosive level.
The two residents were allowed to return to their home a short time later after repair work was carried out.
According to LMFM, a second wheelie bin was also set alight around the same time outside a premises at the junction of Quay Street and Mill Street. Again the fire service dealt with the matter.
