Local residents have failed with an appeal lodged against Louth County Council’s decision to grant planning permission for 125 new homes at Blackrock Cove on the Golf Links Road in Blackrock.
Having been revised in recent years, Shannon Homes Blackrock Ltd had been given conditional planning permission to build 125 new dwellings and a creche.
Permission for the development was initially granted in 2008 by Louth County Council but the project was held up by the decline in the property market and the recession.
However, with the market improving the developers had sought permission for 56 detached, 54 semi-detached and 15 terraced units on the site.
However, a number of appeals had been lodged against it – most notably by local residents – who claimed it “has not been designed with the existing and proposed residents in mind.”
However, An Bord Pleanala have granted permission for the new houses subject to the conditions it set out.
They found the “proposed development would not seriously injure the residential amenities of the area, would be acceptable in terms of traffic safety and convenience and would, therefore, be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
