The funeral of well-known Dundalk supporter Marty Shields will take place on Wednesday morning at 11am in St Nicholas’ Church.
Marty, from Ashling Park, passed away suddenly at the weekend with a huge outpouring of grief shown before and after his beloved Lilywhites’ 1-0 win over Drogheda Utd at Oriel Park on Sunday evening.
In a wonderful gesture by the club, they have invited all mourners back to the Lilywhite Lounge afterwards for refreshments, with all proceeds from the day going towards the Shields family.
Incidentally, Marty’s family have requested that mourners attending the funeral wear Dundalk FC or Leeds United colours – the two great loves of Marty’s life apart from his family.
Marty is survived by his wife Sheila and children Tracy, Patrick and Glenda, granddaughter Kaitlyn and brother James.
His burial will take place in St Patrick’s Cemetery.
