The Green Party have announced their candidates for next May’s Local Elections in Louth.
Sitting councillors Mark Dearey and Marianne Butler will be battling to retain their seats in Dundalk-Carlingford and Dundalk South respectively.
Their nominations come after Fine Gael and Sinn Féin both revealed their local election candidates in recent weeks.
A Senator from February 2010 to February 2011, Cllr Dearey was first elected to Dundalk Town Council in 2004, before being re-elected and elected onto the county council in 2009.
The Spirit Store publican also contested the 2007 General Election and last year was selected as the Green Party’s non-parliamentary spokesperson for Finance.
His sister-in-law Marianne Butler was first elected to Dundalk Town Council in 2009 and was later co-opted onto the county council in February 2010 following Dearey’s election to the Seanad.
Cllr Butler, who hails from the Quay, is also a former chair of Dundalk Town Council.
