The Queen’s Hotel building in Dundalk
Plans to rejuvenate the old Queen’s Hotel building at Crowe Street could be back on track after owners First Active PLC applied to Dundalk Town Council for an extension of the planning permission, previously granted in 2009, to improve the appearance of the building.
The building, which dates from 1872, has fallen into disrepair in recent years and is currently being supported by steel girders, much to the displeasure of local businesses.
The building has a prominent location, fronting onto Crowe Street, the Market Square and Earl Street so any rejuvenation it can get would be appreciated by townspeople and businesses alike.
First Active is no longer in operation but is owned by Ulster Bank, who have business interests in two buildings nearby.
The group are looking to dismantle and rebuild the existing brick rubble wall to the front elevation of the building from the ground floor to the underside of the second floor.
As the building is a protected structure, they have vowed that all features will be replaced to match the existing style and profile with a new lime mortar render finish, including decorative bands and mouldings.
While the majority of the building now lies idle, part of it remains occupied with local solicitor Catherine Fee amongst those who operate from there.
The council will make a decision on the matter on April 10th.
