Major changes are being proposed to the former Violet Pub at The Square in Blackrock to turn it back into a home.
Ronan and Denise Wogan have applied to Louth County Council for planning permission to carry out demolition work, a refurbishment and an extension of the former public house, which has been closed for some time.
The plans include a proposal to remove the two storey extension to the rear of the building (approx 95sqm) and the existing out-buildings to the back garden (approx 99sqm). They then propose to replace this twith a two storey extension to the rear (approx 209sqm).
Internally they hope to reconfigure the pub’s layout at ground floor level to accommodate the new dwelling layout and an integrated garage. On the first floor level they also hope to accommodate the bedroom layouts.
They also hope to secure a new entrance to the garage from the Sandymount Road.
In years gone by the Violet was also a hotel. The pub was placed on the market in April 2011 with an asking price of €290,000 with a sale agreed for an undisclosed sum in August 2012. At the time it had a full seven day pub trading licence.
