The death has occurred of popular local doctor Tom O’Callaghan.
Best known for his work as a consultant physician in the Louth County Hospital, Dr O’Callaghan worked in the Louth for 23 years before his retirement in August 2007.
A major promoter of the local hospital, he was involved in many fundraising appeals over the years, including the Target 250 campaign in 1994 as well as the cardiac appeal and the campaign to get a CT scanner installed in the hospital.a
He was hugely popular amongst both staff and patients and was noted for his kindness to all.
A native of Milltown in Dublin, Dr O’Callaghan passed away peacefully at his family home in Dromiskin on Monday.
He is survived by his wife Ann (née Kelly), son Gareth, daughter Evelyn, son-in-law Allan, daughter-in-law Janet, grandchildren Julia and Amy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Dr O’Callaghan will be reposing at his home from 4pm until 8pm on Tuesday. Remove on Wednesday to St Fursey’s Church Haggardstown, arriving for Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards will take place in the adjoining cemetery.
