pearse ogIt has been a very busy week and a half for Pearse Óg Hurling Club, with three games in 10 days resulting in three victories.

The first victory game on Good Friday, with Pearse Óg beating near neighbours Naomh Moninne by 1-14 to 0-8 in the Louth Junior League. The scoreline certainly didn’t reflect the Pearse Óg dominance. Mark Egan scored the only goal along with a beautiful point over the shoulder from a tight angle along the sideline.

The senior team got the new season underway on Tuesday last with a comprehensive victory over Killeavy on a scoreline of 4-15 to 1-12. Despite missing a number of players it was a solid team performance with Brian Minogue scoring four goals, despite playing with a bad leg injury for part of the match.

The senior team then progressed and got the second victory of the Táin League with a win over Mattock Rangers. Despite trailing by a point at half time, Pearse Óg settled in the second half and came out victorious on a scoreline of 0-19 to 1-9.

Some lovely hurling was played and the majority of scores came from play with Shane Callan and Gerard Smyth scoring some classy long range efforts. The defence was heroic throughout, with standout performances from Matty Myles, Andrew McDermott and Richie Scanlon.

Pearse Óg sit top of the table in the Senior League but the focus Tuesday night is for the U-10 team who travel to Knockbridge to play in their first game of the year.

Pearse Óg would like to remind everyone that juvenile training is ongoing every Saturday from 5pm to 6pm in the Muirhevnamor Astro Turf. All former players and new players are always welcome.
