Fine Gael Councillor for Dundalk-Carlingford, John McGahon, has asked Louth County Council to secure a throughway between Marian Park and Castle Heights in order to reduce anti-social behaviour.
Cllr McGahon submitted a motion to June’s Dundalk Municipal District Committee meeting on the issue.
Speaking during the debate, he said: “This has been a serious issue for the residents of Marian Park and Castle Heights for a number of years. The throughway in question is nothing more than a pathway and a gap in the hedge, however, owing to its secluded nature, it has become a hotspot for anti-social behavior, especially at weekends.
“In recent weeks, I have received a petition from residents with over 40 names asking for the throughway to be properly secured. I have also met with a number of residents in recent days to discuss the council’s proposals for the area.
“County Council officials are currently drawing up a proposal for works at the location. They have also been in contact with the developer who owns the adjacent lands to discuss what can be done on their property to assist the design process. All works for this project are based on the availability of funding,” said Cllr McGahon.
