Three calves, born to a cow in Louth with a suspected case of BSE, have been traced.
Tests are now being carried out to assess whether they also had the disease.
Investigation’s are continuing into Ireland’s suspected first case of BSE since 2013 at a farm near Louth Village.
Chairman of the IFA’s National Livestock Committee Henry Burns says our advanced systems are showing their strength: “All cattle that are born has to be registered after three weeks and their movements are counted in real time, so it’s well recognised that we have probably the best traceability system system, possibly in the world at this stage.”
