The Newtown Blues will meet Cooley Kickhams in this year’s Louth SFC final on Sunday week after overcoming St Patrick’s by 1-10 to 1-8 in a semi-final replay in Haggardstown last night.

The result will see the Drogheda outfit meet Cooley for the first time in a senior championship final since 1981. It also means that Pat’s have been denied a three-in-a-row – a result they would have no doubt dedicated to club man Adrian Donohoe, who was murdered in January of this year.

The Pat’s had led by six points after 11 mintues but the 22nd minute dismissal of Shane Hynes helped the Blues to get on top with a Hugh McGinn penalty just after the break proving to be decisive.

Cooley had booked their place in the final a week earlier, having seen off the O’Connells on a 2-9 to 0-9 scoreline.

The peninsula outfit are aiming to win their first Joe Ward title since 1990 while the Blues last won the Louth SFC title in 2008 and will be aiming for their 20th triumph this year.
