Cooley_distillery_logoCooley Distillery was one of the most complained about sites in the country for noise pollution last year.

That’s according to the latest report from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which found that of 149 noise complaints last year, some 80 per cent of them related to five individual sites.

Cooley Distillery was one of the five along with only Panda Waste in Co Meath receiving more noise complaints.

Despite this the number of complaints about the Riverstown-based distillery fell from 38 in 2013 to 27 last year.

The EPA said nearly all firms complained about were in breach of their licence conditions.

Three firms were prosecuted under environmental legislation in 2014, according to the report with Dundalk-based Oxigen Environmental ordered to pay €9,000.

The Coes Road company was also the fourth most complained about site in the country last year in relation to odours.

There were 64 complaints about the Dundalk site last year, down from 77 the year before.

The INMO said this was the first step in its campaign to improve Intellectual Disability Services nationally.

Industrial action was voted upon by 99% of staff back in June, just days after a HIQA inspection found major non-compliances in nine of the 10 areas inspected at the St John of God-run residential centre.

Work beginning on the N53 on Monday as captured by Cllr Sharkey

Louth County Council says it has no plans to make any changes to the diversions that have been put in place on the N53 Dundalk to Castleblayney Road.

The road closed between Barronstown and Hackballscross for major road reconstruction work on Monday for a period of three months with countless complaints about road safety issues and the need for additional signage on diversion routes.

However, a spokesperson for Louth County Council told LMFM that the site was under the control of the contractor.

The local authority said they would meet with the contractor to examine the issue of signage and where it felt improvements can be made this will be addressed.

Cllr Tomás Sharkey’s call for the road to remain open to traffic with single lane driving in place at the affected areas will not be happening though.

More than 2,000 local people are registered members of the Ashley Madison adultery website.

The controversial site encourages people to meet up and have an affair and has caused huge controversy after it was hacked earlier this year with information on its members posted online.

More than 37 million people have had their details published, including 110,000 in Ireland.

Of that figure it has emerged that 994 members are registered in Dundalk, with all bar 8.5% of them male, while just over 1,000 are signed up in Drogheda.

A further 154 people are registered in Louth Village, with 10% of them female and 58 are in Ardee, with 93% of them female.

Many names used by account holders are pseudonyms but it is also worth noting that Ashley Madison does not verify email addresses on the site so it is possible to sign up using someone else’s email.

The building how it looked after the silhouettes were added to it

A campaign has been launched to return the silhouettes to Castlebellingham.

Talk of the Town recently featured an abandoned building in the village which had been brought to life by the Castlebellingham Tidy Towns committee who painted silhouettes of people from the past at dances on the derelict property.

However, complaints about the building were made soon after and the silhouettes were painted over.

Now a campaign has been set up for their return with a board with the words ‘bring back the Castlebellingham silhouettes” placed at the building and a Facebook page set up.

CiaraBreenGardaí have insisted that searches taking place in Kingscourt, Co Cavan at present are not connected to the search for missing Dundalk teenager Ciara Breen.

Searches began in Kingscourt, around 35km from Dundalk yesterday, but while Gardaí would not be drawn on what they were in relation to they denied it had anything to do with the ongoing search for Ciara Breen.

They would only say that the Kingscourt searches were part of an “ongoing operation.”

A man in his 60s from Dundalk was arrested on Monday on suspicion of withholding information from Gardaí but was later released without charge.

Ciara has not been seen since going missing from her home in the Bachelor’s Walk area of Dundalk on February 13th 1997.

Last week a search of the Balmer’s Bog area, off the Ardee Road, commenced following a tip-off to Gardaí. That search remains ongoing.

Not on the field obviously but the search is on for the next Irish cover stars of the FIFA 16 game from EA Sports.

In the last two season Patrick Hoban and Richie Towell have adorned the Irish cover and given the Lilywhites’ superb form this season here’s hoping they can make it a hat-trick.

Dundalk's Richie Towell appeared on last year's FIFA 15 cover along with Barca's Lionel Messi and Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Barry Murphy

This year the process is slightly different as you can vote for any player at any club. Each club’s most popular player will then go forward as the representative for the final 12 to decide who the two lucky players are that will join Lionel Messi on the cover of the iconic video game.

The two winning players will be unveiled on Wednesday September 23rd, with the exclusive cover available to download for free via easports.com/fifa from Thursday 24th of September. Once you’ve printed out your preferred sleeve, you can simply replace the existing cover in your FIFA 16 pack and start playing with your very own League of Ireland cover stars.

For the past eight years, FIFA has exclusively featured the League of Ireland, giving local fans the chance to play out their ultimate footy fantasies.

FIFA 16 will be available nationwide from Thursday 24th September.
